Is money hotter than sex?, Bloomberg asked on Friday, ahead of an auction for the WallStreet.com web address.

Monte Cahn, who runs the auctioneer, Moniker.com, reckons this piece of pixelated financial real estate might even beat the $9.5m that Porn.com fetched earlier this year.

But then, as Bloomberg points out, a real seat on the New York Stock Exchange is valued at about $7m, based on the terms of its merger with Euronext.

The estimated range for WallStreet.com is put at $4m – $5m. But the address has been dormant since it was sold four years ago for $2.3m by a Caribbean-based casino, Players Sportsbook, based on Margarita Island. The casino had paid $1m for the name in 1999 and run it as a gambling site.

A number of pricey generic dotcom domains are up for grabs at the T.R.A.F.F.I.C East auction being held at the Diplomat Resort and Spa, in Florida. Some guide prices:
