Would-be Apple customers in Beijing, who had endured an overnight wait in below-freezing temperatures, reacted with fury after the company’s main store in Beijing’s Sanlitun district failed to open, Bloomberg reports. Apple had advertised that the store would open at 7am. At 7.15am, people began chanting “Open the door!” and “Liars!” after a man said over a bullhorn that the phone wouldn’t go on sale on Friday, without giving an explanation. Beijing police temporarily cordoned off the store after it was pelted with eggs from the crowd. Carolyn Wu, a Beijing-based Apple spokeswoman, didn’t immediately respond to telephone calls and e-mails. Beijing police didn’t immediately respond to a fax seeking comment.
