Debt talks and the Monday reaction

In a word: muted.

The lack of progress on US debt ceiling talks over the weekend hasn’t caused a spiral of chaos.

Ten-year Treasury yields were up a few basis point early on Monday. Mohammed El-Erian wrote that the US AAA rating was “extremely vulnerable”.

Gold hit another record, going as high as $1622.49:

At pixel time, the Nikkei seemed to be finding ground at about -0.6 per cent:

The ASX opened down o.41 per cent, before heading to about -0.8%:

The dollar was also down a little against the yen, Swiss franc, and euro.

Enjoy.
