Dear all,
Please find enclosed additional information on the Statement EU Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger gave this afternoon in the European Parliament.
He briefed Member of the European Parliament on this proposal for voluntary stress tests for nuclear power plants and in this context expressed his concern about the situation in Japan.
The European Commission is closely monitoring the situation in Japan and relies on two sources of information: on regular updates from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the EU Delegation in Japan and media report. The IAEA gets its information from the Japanese government.
Commissioner Oettinger expressed his fear that the situation in Japan could worsen. He has said: “One has to fear that further dramatic developments might occur in the next hours.”
Best regards
