Dell Q3 profits sink

Dell’s third-quarter profits sank 54% on a continued decline in sales, but the world’s second largest PC maker said sales to both large and midsized companies increased from the second quarter, the first such gains in 21 months. Q3 profits dropped to $337m, from $727m a year earlier as sales shrank to $12.9bn from $15.2bn. The results fell short of projections, sending Dell shares down 5% in after-hours trading. But total sales rose 1% from Q2 and are expected to increase in coming months, marking three periods of sequential improvement.
