Canon launches bid for rival Océ

Canon on Monday launched a €1.32bn ($1.97bn) takeover offer for Océ, the Dutch printer and copier maker, seizing a technologically respected but small and financially weak rival. The acquisition would be one of the largest to date by a Japanese company in continental Europe amid signs of a gradual recovery in M&A activity. Canon’s recommended cash offer of €8.60 per Océ ordinary share is a 70% premium to Océ’s closing price on Friday.
