The spat between Janet Tavakoli and Nassim Nicholas Taleb refuses to go away.
The Black Swan man has updated his notes to the copy of the GQ profile posted on his website:
Those having a hard time keeping up should read the links below, in chronological order, but essentially the debate centres around whether Taleb knowingly or carelessly inflated his returns to the writer of the GQ story, novelist Will Self.
On Tuesday, Taleb forwarded an email he sent to Self back in December, before the GQ article was printed, which pointed out the error, to Felix Salmon. For whatever reason, it seems Self or GQ did not correct the story — perhaps because they stood by Taleb’s quote.
In any case, if Taleb knew the number was incorrect he probably should have put up a note of some sort to accompany the article long before Tavakoli pointed it out the discrepancy.
