US private sector shed 473,000 jobs in June, ADP says

US companies cut more jobs than forecast in June, according to data released by ADP Employer Services on Wednesday.

The ADP jobs report showed a drop of 473,000 private sector jobs on a seasonally adjusted basis from May to June, compared with expectations for a decline of 395,000, according to economists polled by Bloomberg.

Monthly employment losses in April, May, and June averaged 492,000, compared with monthly losses of 691,000 on average over the first three months of the year, the report said.

By sector, the report showed a loss of 250,000 workers in goods-producing industries, a category which includes manufacturers and construction companies.  Employment in manufacturing dropped by 146,000, while service providers cut 223,000 workers.

The number for May was revised to 485,000, versus an originally reported loss of 532,000 private sector jobs.

The Labor Department payrolls and unemployment report is due on Thursday.
