Michael Jackson dies at 50

Michael Jackson, one of pop’s most successful but controversial figures, has died aged 50 in Los Angeles, reports the FT. His death came on the eve of a sold-out comeback tour, meant to revive a career that began four decades ago when Jackson was a child. His collapse on Thursday, of a reported heart attack, leaves uncertainty about his share of one of the world’s largest music publishing companies, Sony ATV – a 50-50 joint venture with Sony through which Jackson controls rights to the Beatles catalogue and other top artists.  More about his life here.
