Glencore, the privately-held Swiss-based trading house renowned for its far-reaching influence on global commodity markets, has had preliminary talks with bankers about an IPO as it reviews its partnership structure. While a flotation is not considered imminent, a move into the public spotlight would mark a big change for the company founded in 1974 by Marc Rich, the one-time fugitive financier famously pardoned by US president Bill Clinton. Rich sold Glencore to associates in 1993.
