From Bloomberg:
May 26 (Bloomberg) — Morgan Stanley’s David Miles beat 71 other applicants for the job on the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee which David Blanchflower will vacate at the end of this week.
From the TUC:
Job seekers are outnumbering vacancies advertised in jobcentres by twenty to one in parts of the country, according to a new analysis of official statistics published today (Tuesday) by the TUC.

The Bloomberg story is in response to a Freedom of Information request from the news agency, which seems to have developed an FOI fetish in recent months.
You can read the whole thing for more details of the applicants, including nationality and sex. The salary on offer for the job seems to have been about £128,600.
That’s probably a pay cut for someone like David Miles.
Go figure.
