Defending the UK’s triple A

- Fitch and Moody’s have both come out to affirm the UK’s triple A rating and a stable outlook for it.  Snaps below:

RTRS – MOODY’S SAYS ITS UK SOVEREIGN RATING IS STABLE AND NOT UNDER REVIEW

RTRS – MOODY’S SAYS UK HAS ENOUGH BALANCE SHEET FLEXIBILITY TO ABSORB SHORT-TERM SHOCKS

RTRS – MOODY’S UK PUBLIC FINANCES FACE CONSIDERABLE CHALLENGES, DAMAGE CAN BE REVERSED OVER TIME

RTRS – FITCH SAYS UK’S TRIPLE A RATING WITH STABLE OUTLOOK TO REMAIN UNCHANGED

Difficult to tell what’s going on here. Certainly though, the S&P statement earlier was unusually bold.
