Barclays to cut 2,100 jobs

Not to be left out of the bank busting news today is Barclays.

The wires are reporting the UK-based bank is to cut 2,100 jobs in its investment banking and investment management arms globally. Bloomberg cites a company spokesman:

Jan. 13 (Bloomberg) — Barclays Plc, the fourth-largest U.K. bank, plans to cut about 2,100 jobs in its investment bank, fund management and private banking units.

“We have begun a process of reduction in headcount across some parts of our investment banking and investment management businesses to ensure we are appropriately sized given the current market conditions,” spokesman Simon Eaton said in a telephone interview today.

Oh dear.

And the latest from eFinancialCareers is that they’re swamped with applications already.
