A transcript of a conversation between the UK chancellor and his Icelandic counterpart appears to question the British government’s claim that Iceland had refused to compensate UK depositors in Icesave, the online banking unit of Landsbanki, the failed Icelandic bank. Meanwhile, The Times says a stalemate in talks between the two countries over the fate of the UK depositors may be delaying an IMF-led bailout of Iceland’s economy. The WSJ also reports that German banks face big losses after lending to Icelandic borrowers.
