Tullett’s merger partner all at sea

Been wondering why the putative merger between Tullett Prebon and rival money broker GFI is taking so long to consummate? Here’s one reason:

That’s the Antara, competing in the Perini Navi Cup in 2004.

The yacht is now owned by Mickey Gooch, GFI’s chief executive, and he will be onboard today, playing host to George Bush Senior.

Mr Gooch is an active Republican, chairing the finance committee for Rudy Giuliani’s presidential run. He is said to have been a friend of the former president for years and the pair will spend the run up to Labor Day playing around off the coast of Maine.
