Former E&Y partner on insider charge

A former Ernst & Young partner has been charged by US prosecutors with passing on insider trading information to a friend at a Pennsylvania investment banking firm ahead of seven deals involving the accounting firm’s clients, including the Blackstone-led $17.6bn takeover of Freescale Semiconductor in 2006. James Gansman, who worked in E&Y’s transactional advisory services department, was charged with conspiracy and securities fraud. His friend, Donna Murdoch, was also charged.
