FT Alphaville wins a Webby

A massive thank you to all who voted - and left such kind comments. FT Alphaville has been honoured at the Webby Awards, taking both the judges’ panel and the People’s Voice awards in the business blog category.

We’re thrilled - and we’re already looking forward to what sounds like a swanky New York ceremony in June where the gongs get handed out. It sounds like Paul Murphy and Neil Hume won’t be the only celebs swanning around the awards gala.

Those of a creative bent may be able to give us one more little bit of help.

The Webby Awards are known for a famous five-word limit on acceptance speeches. Past headline-grabbing speechmakers include Al Gore (”Please don’t recount this vote”), Beastie Boys (”Can anyone fix my computer?”), and Prince (”Everything you think is true.”)

So we need a five-word acceptance speech. Any suggestions?

    “The drinks are on me”

I doubt an old portsmuthian could bring himself to utter those words in a group of more than 5 people though

Anyhow back to important matters….When is the party for all who voted for you? Will you be providing plane tickets from overseas locations?… or do your overseas readers need to organise a “business meeting in London” to coincide with the party?

“Bears use four words”…very very funny

Sadly Churchill was a bit wordy to supply anything memorable for a Webby acceptance speech. “We will fight them on” would not have worked as well.

Fitz: I was barely able to enjoy the long weekend. But romance is never easy and am I am in it for the long haul. As Churchill said: “This is not the beginning of the end, but the end of the beginning!”

I am so going to reget posting this in ML at 11.
