Economist Group on the frontline for Jane’s

The Economist is among the front runners to buy Jane’s Defence Weekly, reports the Daily Telegraph. It is understood that the Economist Group has made it to the second round of the auction for Jane’s Information Group, owners of Jane’s Defence Weekly. Other bidders for the group – which is being sold for £50m-£100m – are thought to include Reed Elsevier, and private equity firms 3i and Carlyle. Management presentations with the various bidders have already begun and a deal is likely to take place within weeks. Industry sources said the Economist Group is interested in Jane’s as it would fit well with its own Economist Intelligence Unit.
