BAE talks to VT, but without Babcock

Back in May BAE Systems and VT Group decided to scrap a plan to join forces and bid for Babcock International, seemingly abandoning a plan to unify Britain’s naval shipyards.

On Thursday the plan appeared to be back on — but without the Babcock component.

In a joint statement BAE and VT said they were in “early discussions” on combining their surface ship-building and naval support businesses in a joint venture. BAE’s submarines business is not included in the plan, the companies added, stating also that the whole initiative was include with the Defence Industrial Strategy produced by the Ministry of Defence.
