Anthony, not Michael

Mudlark looks at the curious ‘desert island disc’ section including in the paperback edition of former Fidelity fund manager Anthony Bolton’s book, Investing with Anthony Bolton. Among the unusual selections is one of Bolton’s own compositions called A Kiss for the Baby, one of a set of 10 carols and interlude for boys’ voices and harp called A Garland of Carols that took him seven years to write. The inspiration for the main melodic line came to Bolton while walking “along the beautiful beach on Baa Atoll in the Maldives” during a trip to mark his 20th wedding anniversary.

The one “pop” choice was The Silky Veils of Ardor from Joni Mitchell’s album Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter. Bolton selected the track for its haunting lyrics about young love, in particular: “Young men, they are like stars . . . they sparkle up the night then . . . . daybreak they’re gone again.” He said: “She knew how the world works.”
