On the great occasion of China Investment Corporation acquiring an 8.68 per cent stake in Thames Water we should not pass up the opportunity to reproduce this extraordinary photograph.
That’s Britain’s chancellor, George Osborne (on the left), having “very serious meetings of substance” during a short trip to Beijing this week.
Lou Jiwei, chairman of the CIC, is clearly fond of George. Remember that he wrote a column in the FT late last year, explaining how China was keen to help update the West’s decrepit infrastructure, beginning with Britain.
Leaky old Thames Water is obviously a good place to start.
