A lot of guff is written about how the advent of blogging and digital reporting generally also marks the end of serious investigative journalism as traditional media outlets are forced to cut costs.
For many years, a great counter-argument came in the form of one Greg Newton, a former Metal Bulletin editor who almost single-handedly held the hedge fund industry to account through his Naked Shorts blog.
Sadly, according to his friend and co-blogger David Fry, Newton died suddenly from a heart attack earlier this month. Apparently he was travelling at the time to join his fiancée Marsha in Florida, where the two planned to start a new life together.
The timing is especially cruel since Newton would have enjoyed chronicling the perp walk now facing many of his targets in the alternative financial space.
